Denny LaVar Hill, 81, of Idaho Falls passed away February 20, 2018, at Teton Post Acute Care Center surrounded by his family.

LaVar was born in a house on Gladstone in Idaho Falls on August 4, 1936, to Tillman Leonard Hill, Jr. and Ina LaVon Blood Hill. He was raised in Idaho Falls where he lived his entire life. He joined the Marines in 1954, did two years of active duty and stayed in the reserves until 1962.

LaVar married Kathryn Ann Fager on November 9, 1958, and together they raised a family of four children. LaVar learned to work on and repair cars early in life. He worked as a body and fender repair specialist for various shops as well as running his own shop at various times over the next 40 years. It was with this work that LaVar took the next generation under his wing, he was a great mentor and truly cared about these young men, he felt he should give back as he was given the same opportunities. LaVar also worked for Montie’s Bombardier both racing snowmobiles and selling snowmobiles after they became established in Idaho Falls during the 60’s.

LaVar had a love for racing and off-road activities and raced motorcycles for fun as well as doing a fair amount of trail riding with buddies through the years. He also loved golfing, camping and occasional fishing. After retiring from body and fender work, he decided to open up a landscape and pest control business with his youngest son, Matt. Together they ran that business for the next 10 years in Idaho Falls before LaVar finally retired for good in 2007. During that time, LaVar and Kathy traveled around the US and abroad.

He is survived by his four children, Bart (Laura) Hill, Becky (Dave) Hill Petti, Michaela (Mark) Hill Moen and Matt (Lara) Hill and his sister Marsha Hill McDaniel. LaVar was the proud grandfather to 9 grandchildren, Megan Petti, Andrew Petti, Michael Moen, Matthew Moen, Sloane True, Mara Hill, Dash Hill, Greyleigh Hill and Willa Hill, all of Idaho Falls. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother, Burt Hill.
