Laurie A. Smith, age 46, of Monon, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Jasper County Hospital. She was born on August 28, 1962, in Rensselaer, the daughter of Jean (Shumaker)Parker and the late Gail Parker. Laurie was a 1980 graduate of Rensselaer Central High School. She was self-employed and for 26 years was the owner and operator of Maid to Order.
Laurie was a member of the Hope Community Church of Rensselaer. She enjoyed hot air ballooning and playing Yatzee. On September 8, 1990, in Rensselaer, Laurie married Harold Smith who survives. Along with her husband, Laurie is survived by her children, Jera (husband Chad)Pio, More Head, FL, Krista Ruemler, Lafayette, Alisha Ruemler, Brookston and Allison Smith, Lafayette, her mother, Jean Parker, Rensselaer and 3 sisters, Gayla (husband Ralph) Carroll, Rensselaer, Cinda Kelley, Avon, IN and Teresa (husband Rick) Miller, Akron, IN.
