Laura Knowlton Tidwell, age 58, of Boerne, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2004. She was born in Houston on January 25, 1946 to Robert and Dorothy Myers Knowlton, Sr. She received her Bachelor”s in Education and Special Education in 1970 from the University of Houston, and a Master”s of Theological Studies from Oblate School of Theology in 1995. An enthusiastic writer of regional history, she was also the editor of the Carrizo Springs Javelin newspaper for many years, and the award-winning author of Dimmit County Mesquite Roots. Laura”s vocation was special education and she was a long-time teacher in Carrizo Springs, Humble, Kerrville, Spring, San Antonio and Boerne school districts. Laura believed that every child deserved the opportunity of obtaining and education to the maximum of their potential, and the support staff, services, and experiences of repeated success, served in a safe, caring, disciplined environment, all of which are necessary to achieve their educational goals. She was also an advocate for greyhound rescue for over 10 years and was active in several organizations, Greyhound Pets of America, Greyhounds Unlimited, and Heart of Texas Greyhound. She was also an editor for the Celebrating Greyhounds magazine.
