Laura Fortunato passed into the loving arms of God on September 10, 2012 with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Laura had a brief illness and had been rehabilitating at the Franciscan Care Center Sylvania in Toledo Ohio.
Laura was born to Frank and Rose Guemelata in Bellevue, Ohio on July 13, 1920. She was a 1940 graduate of Bellevue High School and lifelong member of Bellevue Immaculate Conception Church, the Club Amer-Ital and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jenny (Radloff), her brother Charles Guemelata and her loving husband of 54 years, Louis who died on Jan. 13, 2007.
Laura is survived by her son, Dan (Jeannine) and grandson John with whom she loved sharing her wisdom and through him staying vicariously young, sister-in-law Mary Ann Guemelata and nephew Gary Guemelata(Vicki).
Laura was blessed with a sharp mind and sharp wit. She was telling stories, discussing politics and the philosophies of life up to the end. She lived for the last six years at Oak Leaf village Toledo where she befriended everyone and amused them endlessly with her jokes, stories and glib racy commentary. Laura was a fantastic, old fashioned “depression era” Italian home-style cook, and she became famous at Oak Leaf for her fried pepper sandwiches.
The family would like to thank Sister Jordan and the patient and kind caregivers at the Franciscan Center, and Dave Moyer, the staff and her many friends for their wonderful support and spirit of community at Oak Leaf Village Toledo.
