Laura E. Conant, age 96 of Cardington died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in the Morrow Manor Nursing Home. She was born on April 11, 1920 in Ashley to the late Harry J. and Mamie E. (Claypool) Ruggles. Laura was a 1938 graduate of Ashley High School. She worked at the Sterling 5 & 10 Cent Store for 18 years. Laura then worked at Al’s Restaurant for 23 years as a waitress but will be most remembered there for her pie baking. She was a member of the Morrow County Hospital Buckeye Twig, Daughters of Union Veterans and a Lifetime member of the American Legion Auxillary Unit #97. Laura was first married to Stanley Arehart who died unexpectedly, and she later married Marion U. Conant and he preceded her in death. Laura is survived by her children; Shirley (Jack) Olsen of Galion, Roger (Ida) Arehart of Lexington, Susan (Ross) Rosen of Marion and Jim (Connie) Conant of Caledonia; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Laura was preceded in death by her son, David Arehart and siblings, Ralph and Gaelon Ruggles and Thelma Brandum.
