On Saturday morning January 16, 2016, Latella passed into the arms of her Lord. She was born March 1, 1926 in Fountain Head, Tennessee, a daughter of Claude and Lillie (Sandlin) Groves. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident for 20 years, moving from Sturgis, MI to be closer to her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred Brewington on November 27, 1989; a newborn infant; a daughter Judy Plyley on May 5, 2011; a sister; 6 brothers and a grand son-in-law. Latella is survived by 3 daughters, Sherry (Stan) Lepird of Portage, Marcia (Gunars) Vaseris of Kalamazoo, and Connie (Edward) Born of Portage; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Dorothy (Kenny) Emerson of Bucyrus, OH; and several nieces and nephews. She remained extremely close to sister-in-laws, Ruth, Elna, Ernest and Reba. Latella’s legacy will be her life-long example of 100% commitment to serving God and her all-encompassing and unconditional love for her family.
