Lateef Hafeez-Bey departed this life September 24, 2021.

Lateef Hafeez-Bey passed away peacefully at home with his family on September 24, 2021. Lateef born Layfette Lorenzo Lipscomb in Urbancrest, Ohio on July 30, 1946, to Layfette Lipscomb and Jessie Mae Hancock.

Lateef moved to Columbus, Ohio at a young age where he grew up. He attended Roosevelt Jr High School.

At age 17 Lateef enlisted in the military and at age 20 he was honorably discharged.

Lateef joined The Nation of Islam in 1968-69. Lateef changed his name to Lateef Hafeez-Bey in 1972 hence the beginning of the Hafeez-Bey Clan. In 1973 Lateef joined Blackmans Development Center (BDC) to work in and for the community. Now Major Lateef Director of the Drug Cure Program and summer jobs. Also known as the Oak & Wilson Project.

Lateef graduated OSU with a B.A. in Social Work. Lateef worked at Buckeye Steel for 15 years. He also ran his own business Sure Secure Puff Puff Pass (Hookahs).

Outside of his unwavering love and time spent with his family was Lateef’s love of weapons, music, bicycling, his main man Rocky (his dog) and instruments.

Lateef loved his family more than anything and left them with all the tools and knowledge to carry on and past down proudly. Anyone having the pleasure of meeting or knowing Lateef will say how he has left a strong impression on them. Lateef has impacted and changed a lot of lives and will be forever remembered.

Lateef is preceded in death by his parents Layfette Lipscomb and Jessie Mae Hancock, Sisters: Majeeda Ransom-Martin, Betty Bond, Osanetta Lipscomb, Brother:Larry Lipscomb. Lateef is survived by his wife of 57 years Naima Hafeez-Bey, 7 children Lisa Kidd, Waahid Hafeez-Bey, Hassana (Jermaine) Hafeez-Bey Davis, Nina (Paul) Hafeez-Bey, Abdul Hafeez-Bey, Yassmena Hafeez-Bey, Jamal Hafeez-Bey, special nephew Malik Bond, 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, Saiedah Hafeez-Bey, Rocky (his dog), Sisters in law: Charmayne (Jeff) Binns, Marquise (Brain) Woods, Brothers in laws: Marvin Edmondson, Carlos Edmondson, Raqueeb Edmondson and a number of nephews and nieces.
