Larry William Francis, Sr. was born April 26, 1933 in New Orleans, LA to Willie and Irene née Vincent Francis, he was the 4th of 12 children. Larry was surrounded by his loving family when he completed this life’s journey on June 16th. He is preceded in death by his son, Larry Jr.; grandson, Errol Willie Renard Francis; his parents; brothers, Calvin, Floyd, Noel and Adolph; and sisters Audrey, Marjorie and Germaine.
Larry leaves his wife of 66 years, Quincella née Aguillard; daughters, Germanetté Loftin (Lloyd), Dana Maddox (Charles Jr) and Terri Williams; his remaining 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and sisters, Aline (Tee Ta), Eunice, Cynthia and Iris to cherish his memory along with many, many relatives.
His grandchildren will no doubt remember their grandpa, affectionately called Bumy by their grandmother, for all the popsicles, cookies and snack pies he shared with them and the rides in “Red”, his truck when going on picnics in the mountains. Grandpa always had a story to share and a joke to tell. And of course, his quote, that made them all laugh, “See this finger, see this thumb, see this fist, you better run.”
Larry became one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses later in life and dedicated himself to carrying out our Loving Creators will to preach the good news and to share the wonderful hope we have regarding God’s promise and he did this faithfully until he was no longer able to.
Larry came to Colorado Springs in the early 1960’s working as a cook for ENT Airforce Base, now Peterson AFB. He retired from Peterson after 22 years and then worked at Colorado Springs Deaf and Blind School as head chef for 21 years where he made many friends.
Larry touched many people with his kindness, humor, and generosity and will be remembered fondly as one of the “Coolest Cats” around.
