Larry Wayne Whitted was born to the late Katherine Whitted

Larry was a 1974 graduate of Clinton High School where he was a very active and dedicated player of the Dark Horse football team. Larry wore the number 42 and played the position of running back. Larry had skills on the basketball court as well but his passion was football. That passion lead him an acceptance into Lees-McRae college as the first African American student, however, the acceptance was a short stay because Larry joined the military. He served in the US Army from 1975-1979. After leaving the military Larry received a trade in welding from Sampson Community College. He was a welder for 20-plus years at Robinson and Sons Machine Shop in Clinton NC. After retirement, he began employment with Clean Rite Service where he was a dedicated worker until his health failed.

Larry enjoyed life and was a loyal friend to many of his classmates and other associates in and around the Clinton area. Larry was a go-getter, even in sickness he never gave up his will to provide for himself or his determination to remain independent. Prideful and stern many jokingly called Larry the local “John Amos” as he also favored the TV dad in appearance and deportment. Larry had a love for race cars and was a great driver holding another nickname (Richard Petty) by many of his friends
