Larry L. Estes, 88, died November 10, 2021.

Larry was born September 30, 1933 to parents, Harley and Maurine Estes, in Kirksville, MO. His family moved to Ft. Madison, IA in 1942, where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and then Catholic Central High School, graduating in 1953.

He served in the U. S. Army Engineers attached to the Air Force at Elmendorf Air Base, Anchorage, AK. In 1957, he married Rose Ann Lampe of West Point, IA. Together they raised five children. He worked for Santa Fe; Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific; and Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroads.

He spent his last 28 years working for Western Weighing & Inspection Bureau auditing railroad industrial accounts in Des Moines and later the entire state of Iowa. He served as Secretary – Treasurer for Des Moines Local Freight Agents Association and, in retirement, as Co-President and Vice President for (NARVRE) National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees where he and his and wife, Rose, were active members.

Larry always loved travel and watching Iowa’s Big Four Colleges during sporting events. He was very proud of his family and especially loved his Grand and Great Grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Rick Estes; his parents; his older sister, Louise Braden and his younger brother, Dwight K. Estes.
