Larry L. Dhondt, 54, of Kellogg, died on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at his home.
Larry, the son of Peter and Sharon (Lester) Dhondt, was born on April 27, 1968 in Iowa City. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1986. Larry moved to Kellogg in the late 1980’s. On April 5, 1995, he was united in marriage with Teresa Winningham in Kellogg. Larry worked over 19 years at Midwest Manufacturing until its closure. He then worked at the Newton Correctional Facility. In both positions he was a proud Union Member. In August of 2011, Larry had a horrific motorcycle accident on his way to work that left him unable to work again.
Larry’s favorite activity was racing. It was in his blood and as his family said “it’s just what our family does”. He raced everything from bikes to mud trucks to stock cars. When he wasn’t racing or riding his motorcycle he was working on race cars and motorcycles. After his accident, Larry also loved to socialize around Kellogg.
Larry is survived by his wife, Teresa Dhondt of Kellogg; children, Ashley Dhondt of Chelsea and Calvin (Justina) Dhondt of Kellogg; his grandchildren, Krayton, Tatum, Blake, Kenzli, Presley, and Trigg; his step-dad, Jimmi Jaennette of Newton; siblings, Kristen Jaennette of Toledo and Michael Jaennette of Kellogg; and his nieces and nephews, Brooklyn, Dayton, Kinzer, London, and Gunner. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Jaennette; father, Pete Dhondt; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
