Larry J. Ruiz, 69, of Ottawa, died on Saturday night July 14, 2018, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. Larry was born on November 11, 1948, in Ottawa, to John C. and Mary (Rosales) Ruiz.

He was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School Class of 1967. Larry served in the US Army in Germany from 1968 to 1971. He married Julie Towne on June 23, 1979, in Serena. Larry was a mechanic at a Ford garage and also worked for Ruiz Construction. He was a member of the American Legion Post 33 and St. Columba Church. Larry was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, and his family would like to encourage guests in attendance to wear Cubs attire, in his honor.

He is survived by his wife Julie, 4 children, Tami Isham, of Missouri Valley, IA, Brandy (James Merritte) Ruiz, of Ottawa, Melissa (Jeramie) Kelley, of Bemidji, MN, and Lawrence Ruiz, Jr., of Ottawa, 9 grandchildren, Eden, Timothy, Jemal (Ceonna), Rebekah, James, Jaykob, Corbyn, Jessie, and Braylen, a great-granddaughter, Lillyanna, a brother Michael (Anne) Ruiz, of Ottawa, 2 sisters, Beatrice (Ronald) Burke, of Ottawa and Juanita Muffler, of Ottawa, many nieces, and nephews, and a very special niece Sherri Peltier.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Barbara Passini, 2 brothers, Patrick and Robert Ruiz, and a nephew Grady Casey.
