Larry J. Coates, age 84 of Saginaw and formerly of Midland, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Saginaw Senior Care in Saginaw. The son of the late Paul E. and Laura S. (Hamilton) Coates, was born March 13, 1935, in Midland.
Larry served his country honorable in the United States Air Force and with the Michigan Army National Guard 1460th serving in Operation Desert Storm; retiring as Sergeant First Class. Larry was also a member of the VFW post-1071. He worked many years as a machinist with Eaton Corporation in Saginaw. On September 10, 1955, Larry married the former Helena G. Parsons in Freeland. After 53 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on January 18, 2009.
Surviving are his children, Steven (JoAnn) Coates and Lisa (Ralph Carter) Crook both of Saginaw; grandchildren, Charity (Kristopher) LaDuke, Joshua Gray, Jeffrey (Jenni) Coates, Rick Coates, Claire (Tyler Morris) Crook, Emily (Bobby) Rathbun; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Coates, Helena Coates, Vaughn Coates, Damian LaDuke, Gabriel LaDuke, Paisley Coates, and Chase Coates; and sister Laura (Ross) Fisk. In addition to his parents, wife, and son,
Larry was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Ashley D. Coates.
