Larry Elden Ballinger, 77, died on May 15, 2017 at his home in Naples, Florida following a long illness. He leaves his ex-wife, Susan Ballinger-Waylonis, son, Lee Ballinger, daughter, Lohra Ballinger, and grandchildren, Lohren, Noah, and Cooper.
Larry was born and raised in Anderson. After graduating from Anderson High School in 1958, he attended Indiana University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. In 1962, he graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in business. After graduation, he joined the Marines where he served in Vietnam, and afterwards, he joined the family business where he was president of ALAC Garment Service and ALAC Building Maintenance in Anderson. Larry was an avid golfer. He was on the Anderson High School golf team, where he won the Dick Zoll Award. He was a member of Anderson Country Club and Edgewood Country Club, and after retirement, he was a member of Cypress Lakes Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, where he golfed almost every day. Larry also loved Indiana University Basketball. He rarely missed a game from the time he graduated until near his death. He was a Bobby Knight fan, and was not happy when he was fired. The one thing Larry would want to be remembered is his deep religious conviction.
He was a born again Christian and active in the local church. He served as Treasurer for the Alliance Church of God and was on the Board of Trustees of Youth for Christ.
