Larry Donnell Gunn was the eldest son and second born child of Jacob A. Gunn and Hortense Rogers Gunn, born March 3, 1950. He was raised in the Carr Store Community and remained there for his entire life. He was educated in the segregated Orange County School System and was a 1968 graduate of Central High School, Hillsborough, NC. Following his graduation, he wanted to be of service to his country and fellowman, so he enlisted into the United States Army and fought courageously and bravely during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his Honorable Discharge, he became acquainted with Patricia Graves. Following a brief courtship, the two married and shared a lasting love for 49 years.
In his youth Larry joined Union Grove Baptist Church. As we all go through the swift transitions of life, he decided to totally give his life to Christ. He was truly committed to the work of Christ. For over 25 years, he was devoted and dedicated Deacon. He was an excellent Sunday School teacher, bringing God’s Word to life. Most of all his desire was that all would receive the same glorious salvation that he had received. He was an encourager, a motivator, thinker, man of God and an all-around good and genuine person.
