A native of Danville, VA , He was a son of the late Millard Lee Bates and the late Shirley Cox Solomon , and had lived most of his life in Rockingham County. He was an accomplished guitarist and musician.
Survivors include: His daughter: Tabatha Durham and husband Robert of Reidsville, grandchildren: Cheyenne, Hannah and Andrew Durham, brother: Ricky Bates of Reidsville, Numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
