Larry D. DeWitt, Sr., 76, of Germantown Hills, IL passed away at 10:31 am on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. He was born on November 9, 1939 in Galesburg, IL to Gene and Della (Peacock) DeWitt. He married Mickey M. Herring on July 17, 1958 in Galesburg. She passed away on August 3, 1995.
Surviving are his children Denise (Mike) Waldschmidt of Metamora, Larry (Sandy) DeWitt, Jr. of Decatur, GA, and Robin (Chris) Gillhouse of Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren Jason (Carrie) Chou, Jessica (Colin) Chou-Graham, Adam (Megan) Gillhouse, David DeWitt, and Allison DeWitt; great-grandchildren Kelbi, Aiden, Graham, and Rossie Lane; siblings Frank (Joyce) DeWitt of Sunnyland and Eva Gilchrist of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
Larry was a devoted husband to his late wife Mickey, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Larry worked at Metamora Township High School for over 30 years and after retirement remained connected to the school and community. Larry’s passion was working with students with special needs at MTHS. He was dedicated to the relay for life team in honor of Mickey DeWitt.
