Larry Arnold Poteat, 81, of Mount Ulla, NC, passed away Friday, February 18, at Novant Forsyth Hospital, Winston Salem, NC. He was born on August 8,1940 to the late Arnold and Hilda Myers Poteat. He was preceded in death by his brother Norman Poteat (Janice).
He graduated from Mount Ulla High School in 1958 and entered the Marine Corps in October 1958. After serving four years active duty and two years reserve duty, he attended Automation Training School in St. Louis, Mo. He worked as a Programmer/Systems Analyst until his retirement from Food Lion in 2001. He then took a part-time position as President and Sales Associate for Rowan Mutual Insurance Company and retired from that position in 2020. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Mount Ulla.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Kluttz Poteat, whom he married on December 31, 1961. Daughters: Muriel Poteat Watson (Frank) Southport, NC and Beth Poteat Schnyder (Bob) Portland, Oregon. Granddaughters: Cali and Amanda Watson, Southport, NC, Claire and Madeline Schnyder, Portland, Oregon. Sisters: Jan Sywenki, Salisbury, NC, Elaine McLaughlin (Bill) Mooresville, NC, Laura Myers (Sean) Mount Ulla, NC and Joyce Sloop (John) Mooresville, NC.
