Larry Anderson Sides, 87, of Stanfield, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at in Stanfield.
Larry was born November 14, 1935 in North Carolina to the late Fred Anderson Sides and the late Margaret Pauline Sides.
He was also preceded in death by wife, Mary Wilson Sides, and son, Barry Anderson Sides.
Larry was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He joined the Air Force and was first stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. As he was about to be deployed to Iceland, he went ahead and married his loving wife Mary, prior to deployment. Larry graduated from Catawba College with a Bachelor’s in Education and then graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Master’s in Education in 1974. He was a teacher and a band director, and eventually became a principal in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. After retiring, he went to the Stanly County School System to serve as an interim principal. Larry was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Stanfield where he was the minister of music for over 50 years and was also a Boy Scout Leader. Larry touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with and had a great impact on his community. In his spare time, Larry was known for his wood working abilities which he showed great amounts of skill in and attention to detail. As a resident of Stanfield, he served on the Board of Commissioners nearly 17 years. Larry is now together again with his loving wife in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include son, Jeffrey Edward (Ann) Sides of Cary, NC, grandchildren, Noah Anderson Sides and Jordan Elizabeth Sides.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Larry’s caregivers and also to Hospice of Stanly for their dedicated and loving care.
