Larry A. Shawback, 69, of LaRose, IL passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at his home with family by his side.
Larry was born on July 6, 1949 to Don and Mary Ann (Throndson) Shawback in Owatonna, MN. He married Diane Roberts in Chicago, IL in 1970 and was later married to Sue Cooney in Peoria, IL.
He is survived by his mother; two sons, Randy of LaRose, IL and Troy of Washburn, IL; grandchildren, Colton and Dustin of Washburn, IL, and Sara of LaRose, IL; two sisters, Linda and Julie; and a brother, Randy. Also surviving is his second wife, Sue; her children Jay and Geri Lynn and grandchildren; Shelly Casper, Larry’s partner for the past 14 years and her granddaughter Kelsey Marlow, who he treated just as his own grandchild, both of Washburn. Larry was proceeded in death by his father in 2017 and his first wife in 2010.
After High School, Larry joined the Naval Reserves. Soon after he began his long career of truck driving, first in Chicago, then later in Peoria. After 20 years of truck driving he quit but continued working in the transportation industry for another 24 years with Gray Transportation and later Gray Logistics.
He retired in 2011 to his organic gardening (White Chimney Farm) and was a vendor at Peoria’s Riverfront Market for many years. After losing his house, green house and garden in the Washburn tornado in 2017, Larry returned to trucking for Wayne Craig in Washburn until the fall of 2018 when his battle with cancer forced him to retire once more. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Peru, IL.
Larry was a lover of life and lived it to the fullest. His love for his family and especially his grandchildren was second to none. He took great pride in everything he touched in his life from his work to all of his outside activities that he loved so much.
Larry will be truly missed.
