Lana Marie Messenger, 66, of Lost Creek, went to be with her Lord, on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 7:56 pm, at home, surrounded by her loving family and friends, after a 3-1/2 year battle with cancer.  She was a fighter and outlived every prognosis by her physicians.

Lana was born in Clarksburg, WV, on June 30, 1951.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Harry and Mary Swisher Kooken.   She married the love of her life, Daniel Messenger, on March 29, 1977.

She was the mother of two sons, Joshua Messenger and wife Elaina, of Lost Creek, and Christopher Messenger, of Lost Creek.  She was the proud grandmother of Joshua “Brody” Messenger and Lucas “Lukie Duke” Messenger.  Lana is also survived by sisters Virginia Simmons of Salem, Nancy Kelley of Rosemont, Linda Hudkins and husband, Danny, of Owings, and brother, David Kooken, of Glen Falls.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Roger Kooken, and three sisters, Rita Poling, Doris Kooken, and Rhonda Martin.

She was an employee of the Harrison County Board of Education as a cook at South Harrison High School, and was a former employee of Shahady’s Antiques and The Country Peddler of Bridgeport, and Sunset Ellis Restaurant in Shinnston.

Lana was a great cook and enjoyed scrapbooking, collecting and making porcelain dolls, Christmas, playing games, and spending time with her family and grandsons.

Lana had a ready laugh and a caring heart.  Through her affliction with cancer, she never complained and when things got tough, she would recite “The Lord’s Prayer”.  She always found the good in people, and had great integrity and a love of life.
