Lalayjah Person was born on December 28, 2012 in White Plains, New York to Stephanie Dryers and Lamont Person. She was affectionately known as “Lala”. She attended Head Start-Family Services of Westchester at Rochambeau Center. Her head teacher, Meaghan Donnelly stated: Lala will be missed for her smile, strength and her spunk. Lala was eager to go to school every day and never liked leaving. She enjoyed playing with her classmates. Lala loved any soft fluffy animal or blanket and cuddled with her brother’s bathrobe at bedtime. She also enjoyed watching cartoons such as “Peppa Pig”, “Dora the Explorer” and “Doc McStuffins” which she watched daily. She would often play on her grandmother’s tablet and watch the “Become Jehovah’s Friends” videos featuring Caleb and Sophia.
She loved going to the park, riding her scooter, playing in the leaves, and snow. Lala always followed Uncle Mike wherever he went. He fondly remembers her saying “woof woof” when she saw dogs and she loved to eat bacon and pepperoni. He said she had a smile that would light up a room and did no wrong in his eyes; she was just a perfect child to him, she made his day and night. Lala would watch him clean up and then she did what he did.
When Grandpa Charles was in the nursing home she would rub his cheeks and say to him “my baby”. Lala was such a wonderful child, loved her brothers and sisters. Aunt Sharon, Aunt Genie and Uncle Mike were very instrumental in helping Grandpa Charles and Grandma Doris care for her. Lala’s beautiful smile and personality touched everyone who met her. Her sister Mikeila will always treasure her joyful memories of Lala being at her graduation. Her brother Mickeil described his sister as loving. “She loved people and was fun to be around and very caring”.
He remembers the time when she gave him a kiss on the cheek when he got hurt and he was crying. Her Aunt Charlesina said Lala was her best friend. She leaves to cherish her memory her grandparents, Charles and Doris Young; three brothers Mickeil, Drew, Elijah and Amir (Matthew); two sisters, Mikeila and Charisma, Eugene, a cousin who was more like a brother; aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives, friends and well-wishers. Lala’s beautiful smile and personality touched everyone she met. She was a very loving, sharing and caring little girl. Lalayjah will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
