L. Edward Huber L. Edward Huber, 93, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Kirkland Village, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Shafer) Huber, who passed away in 1990, shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Born in Hellertown, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Elizabeth (Wagner) Huber. Huber was a descendant of Peter Cooper, founder of Coopersburg, PA, and a life-member of the Coopersburg Historical Society. After graduating from Liberty High School, he served on the Alumni Reunion Committee, class of 1936. He received accreditation in Ferrous Metallurgy from Penn State University Extension. Huber was Assistant to the Manager of Claims, Finance Department, Bethlehem Steel Corp., working for the company for over 40 years before retiring in 1980. He enjoyed travelling, and on a trip to Europe he had the occasion to fly in the supersonic British Concorde from London to New York. He served in the Pennsylvania State Guard during WWII. He was a member and former chairman of the Bethlehem Salvation Army Advisory Board, and headed the 100th Anniversary celebration of the local Salvation Army Corps in 1984. Territorial Headquarters awarded him with Life Membership in 2004. He was a past member of the Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School Authority, serving as Treasurer. He was a charter member of the Burnside Plantation, and served as chairman of the Medals Committee at the City of Bethlehems 250th Anniversary in 1991. Ed was a member of the Emmanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, and served as Sunday School superintendent in the 1950s. He also served on the Board of Trustees and Official Board of Olivet E.C. Church before their merger with Emmanuel Church in 1999. Survivors: son, Louis Edward “Ned” Huber, Jr., and his wife Patricia of Allentown; trusted friend and companion, Catherine R. Collette of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Susan Smith of Doylestown, Todd Huber and his wife Aimee of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Christian Smith; sister Mrs. Art Boyer of Browns Mills, NJ. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Louise Huber in 2010.
