Kristen Nicole Redpath, 21
Devoted her life to helping others
Kristen Nicole Redpath, 21, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007 in a motor vehicle accident. Kristen was born October 19, 1986 in Landstuhl, Germany and lived in Alamogordo since 1995. She graduated from Alamogordo High School in 2004 and received her Associate’s Degree from New Mexico State University at Alamogordo in 2007 and had planned to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. Kristen was recently engaged to be married to Jerry Overby.
Kristen once said that she felt that her purpose in life was to help others. While in high school she devoted herself to following through with these feelings. She was a volunteer candy striper at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center where she was awarded the outstanding candy striper of the year. In addition, she volunteered as a Big Sister for children at Yucca Elementary and helped with the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life for several years. After graduating from high school, Kristen worked as a CNA at CASA Arena providing care for the elderly. She proved her wonderful devotion to these residents as she would often purchase personal items for them with her own money, read to them on her time off, and make them small crafts to cheer them up. She continued this wonderful gift of caring, for those who could not care for themselves, through employment at various Respite care facilities in Alamogordo. She spent many hours of her days off helping these clients with chores such as yard work, cooler repair, and personal errands. In addition, she often provided meals, clothes, and other personal essentials to the homeless and donated her time each Thanksgiving preparing and delivering meals to local people in need.
Kristen loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, and fishing. She belonged to Troop 147’s Venturing Crew that included activities such as white water rafting, horseback riding, rappelling, and backpacking that encompassed a 70 mile hike at the Philmont Boy Scout camp in Northern New Mexico. Kristen had a passion for the arts especially painting, drawing, and handmade crafts. At age 6, her drawing of Santa Claus was selected for an award and printed for distribution on postcards at Rhein Main AB in Germany. She was a member of the Cloudcroft Art Society and received the Grand Champion Ribbon at the Otero County Fair in 2005 for one of her paintings.
Survivors include her fiancé Jerry Overby, her mother and stepfather Judy and Steve Holmes, her brother Joshua Redpath and stepbrothers Sean and Mark Holmes all of Alamogordo; her father and stepmother Edwin and Carolyn Redpath of Abilene, Texas; her grandparents Bob and Patsy Muller of Mammoth, Arizona, Ed and Pat Redpath of Gulfport, Mississippi, her step grandparents Roy and Rosie Holmes of Alamogordo; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
