Butch was born October 16, 1942 in LaSalle to Maurice and Gertrude (Korter) Moran. He attended St. Bede Academy and LaSalle-Peru High School. He married Joan Lopez on October 16, 1963 and they had three children. They raised their family in DePue. Joan preceded him in death on May 29, 1993. On October 18, 2014, Butch and Jane Hardesty were married.

Butch was a union laborer for 53 years. He was the business agent for 10 years at Laborers International Union of North America Local 287 in Spring Valley. Currently, Butch owned and operated Advertising Consultants in Oglesby.

Butch was an avid union man and Democrat. He fiercely worked to ensure elected officials were doing their best for working men and women. He created the DePue Democrats and Illinois Valley Democrats to coordinate efforts to elect democrats in Putnam, Bureau and LaSalle counties. Butch wanted to remind Democrats to vote March 17, 2020 and November 3, 2020. Please bring or wear any democrat or union campaign button or label pin to the services.

When asked, his greatest achievement was being able to stress to his children the values of integrity, honesty, and hard work in everything they do; also instilling in them respect for their fellow workers.

The best advice he gave was to help those in need and to not worry about why they are in need; just help them!

Butch adored his family, including his wife, Jane; his children, Shane Moran of Hampstead, NC, Kelli (Ben) Harrison of Marion, IA and Tracy (Ron) DeGraaf of Peotone; step-children, Nathan (Rosa) Hardesty and Molly Hardesty; 11 grandchildren, Nathan DeGraaf, Shana Jo (Mike) Harrison Crews, Luke DeGraaf, Benjamin Harrison, Joel DeGraaf, Sophia Moran, Adam DeGraaf, Caleb DeGraaf, Michelangelo Hardesty, Gianluca Hardesty and Giuliana Hardesty; his great-granddaughter, Josephine Crews and his brother, Gordon (Eleanor) Moran.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan; a step-daughter, Molly Hardesty; his parents and his sister, Nancy Nagle.
