Kirkland James Townsend

September 29, 2001 – November 9, 2016

Kirkland James Townsend passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in Parker, CO.  Born in Greenville, SC to parents William C. and Elizabeth H. Townsend, Kirkland was raised in Parker.  He was known to his family and friends for his sense of humor and biting sarcasm, his kind, generous nature, and passion for sports and broadcasting like no other.

From a young age Kirkland excelled in several sports, ultimately singling out baseball to focus his training on.  Starting as a utility player, he was willing to play anywhere just to be in the game.  He initially settled in at first base, played shortstop but found true passion as a pitcher. His love for the game grew as each season passed.  Statistics and strategy became part of his growing knowledge base and the idea of Sports Journalism, Sports Broadcasting or Sports Management as an avenue to explore for college took root.

Entering Legend High School as a Freshman, Kirkland joined the Broadcasting Club and helped launch some of the first NFHS TV broadcasts for the school.  With a broad knowledge of sports, he was a frequent commentator for the group.  He was a skilled programmer and excelled in his programming and coding classes.  Perhaps one of his greatest joys was making the 2015-2016 Legend High School Freshman Baseball Team and Titan 16U teams playing at both pitcher and catcher while also helping out at third.

Kirkland is survived by his father, William C. Townsend, his mother, Elizabeth H. Townsend, his brother John P. ‘Jack” Townsend “Jack”; grandparents Betty Lou Bousquet, Emile “Chip” Bousquet; Ruth W. Hubbard; aunt, Lisa Bousquet, and is predeceased in death by his grandfather Charles W. Hubbard.
