Kinney O’Neil “KO” Slaughter, age 89, of Birmingham AL, joined our Lord Jesus Christ Sunday, November 11, 2012. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Pell City, AL. Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Ulma Slaughter and his brother Kinney Earl Slaughter. He is survived by his wife Helen Hughins Slaughter, sons Bob Slaughter & James Slaughter, a sister Peggy Jacobs, 7 grandchildren Timothy Slaughter, Tina Fortenberry, Elizabeth Fuller, Lynn O’Neal, Cindy Crothers, Scott Slaughter, and Mark Slaughter. He had 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He started as a farmer and then went into the grocery business. After that he worked for General Foods Corporation for many years and later for Bryan Brothers Packing Company where he earned numerous sales awards and subsequently retired. He was a natural born salesman with a winsome smile and outgoing bubbly personality who was loved by all. He served the Birmala Lodge No. 836 F. & A.M. for over 50 years & has served as Worshipful Master. He was a devoted & loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. His grandchildren loved his famous train whistle sounds that only he could make as he came into their homes, usually followed with a hardy “Roll Tide!” He loved to play the board game Pollyanna, was an avid golfer and lifelong University of Alabama football fan. His loving smile and joyful disposition will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
