KERMIT WASHINGTON JR. was born February 4, 1948 in Darrow, LA to Elma and Kermit Washington Sr.

In 1968, Kermit enlisted in the United Sates Navy. After receiving his Honorary Discharge he joined the National Guards in San Diego, CA.

During the early 1970s, Kermit met and united in Holy Matrimony with the lovely Clara Silas. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children, Michael, Deborah and Robert.

Shortly after completing his military duties, Kermit, who always had a thirst for knowledge enrolled at San Diego City College, where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Accounting. He later received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.

Kermit was employed with Rohr Inc. and later with Bechtel Engineer. He also taught night classes at Gompers Jr. High School. Years later, Kermit and his family relocated to Houston, TX, where he decided to go into business for himself by establishing a Jiffy Lube Franchise.

In 1994, Kermit and his family moved back to San Diego. Fulfilling his dreams, he established and successfully operated K. Lube Incorporated. He retired in 1997 at the young age of forty-nine. In 2005, Kermit and his family relocated to Surprise, AZ. On March 2, 2006, his beloved Clara was called home to be with the Lord.

Kermit was a hardworking man, striving to provide a good life for his family. He was firm but honest. If you needed advise, he gave it to you straight, no sugar coating or double talk. He enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the country. He especially enjoyed the Las Vegas and New Orleans trips. He was known for making the best Gumbo, Louisiana style. Kermit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Joseph Washington Sr. and Henry Ward and one sister, Birdie Washington.

On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Kermit Washington Jr. passed away peacefully at Banner Dell Webb Hospital in Surprise, AZ surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his children, Michael Washington, Deborah Washington-Wilson (Anwar) of San Diego, CA and Robert Washington of Surprise, AZ; his mother, Elma Ward of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Rosemary Pinkney of San Diego, CA, Blanche Ward of Virginia Beach, VA, Betty Jean Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA and Emelda Washington of LA; two brothers, Joshua Ward of Detroit, MI and Ralph Washington of Baton Rouge, LA; his longtime friend, Walter Brown; grandchildren, Mikale Washington, Makayla Washington, Shaquan Wilson and Saniyah Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
