Kenneth W. Bolze
Kenneth W. Bolze, 79, of 4 White Oak Drive, Dickinson Township, passed away on October 5, 2013 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle, surrounded by many loving family and friends.
Born May 19, 1934 at Carlisle Hospital, he was the eldest child of the late Arthur W. and Geraldine E. (Butts) Bolze. He was raised in Landisburg and Carlisle, graduating from Carlisle High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. After attending Penn State Forestry School at Mont Alto, he graduated in 1960 from Shippensburg State Teachers College with a bachelor’s degree in biology and again in 1965 with a master’s degree in counseling. In 1960 he joined the Cumberland County Probation Office in Carlisle as a probation and parole officer and served as office chief from 1984 until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Mount Holly Springs United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for several years. He served on the boards of various organizations, including the Opportunities Industrialization Center (now Employment Skills Center), Safe Harbour, Cumberland County Prison Society, and the Mt. Holly Golden Age Club, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, hunting, marksmanship, bicycling, volleyball, and tennis. His family and friends were an integral part of his life.
He was married to the late Norma (Cramp) Glessner and Annette Sites (Plank) of Newville, Pa. He is survived by three sons, Thomas A. Bolze of New Haven, Ct., Mark A. Bolze (Rebekah) of Carlisle, and Victor M. Bolze of Houston, Tx.; three step-children, Teri Zeigler (Paul) of Newville, Todd Plank of Gardners, and Sean Plank (Michele) of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Rachel, James, and Leah Bolze of Carlisle; and four step-grandchildren, Brianna Zeigler of Newville and Ian, Caleb, and Cayden Plank of Carlisle. He is also survived by all five of his siblings, Ray S. Bolze of Bethesda, Md., Deanna E. Seibert of Carlisle, Esther L. Gibbs of York, Norma J. Emerson of Sanibel, Fl., and Kathleen M. Donkus of Boiling Springs.
Mr. Bolze has donated his remains for the education of future medical professionals .
