Kenneth Van Howard

Kenneth (Ken) Van Howard departed this world on Sunday afternoon February the 28th, 2016. Ken is survived by his wife of 48 years; Suzanne Forbes Howard of Reidsville and son; Thomas VanNess Howard of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents Cyrus VanNess Howard and Sarah Whitsett as well as his daughter Sarah Suzanne Howard, all of Reidsville.
Ken was a Reidsville native, graduating from Reidsville High in 1951. He was an Eagle Scout and a proud member of the football team that won the state championship his senior year. Ken attended UNC Chapel Hill before serving in the US Army in Germany for two years. Upon his return to the US Ken attended Guilford College then began his career at American Tobacco Company. After 15 years with the company Ken became an agent with New York Life. It was during this time that Ken also pursued his lifelong interest in real estate and obtained his broker’s license and began the career he loved as an independent real estate broker until he retired in the mid 1990’s.
Ken was a devoted member of St. Thomas Episcopal since 1967 when he married his beloved wife Suzanne there. He served on the Vestry, was an usher and served as the President of the Men’s Club for many years.
