Kenneth Spencer Sheets, 79, of Statesville, passed away peacefully with his loving daughters by his side, on Sunday, January 8, 2023 following a brief illness.
Born on January 22, 1943, Kenneth was the oldest child of the late Spencer and Virginia Sheets. Kenneth graduated from Troutman School and was a supervising machinist for Sherrill Machinery and Deal Machine Shop for over thirty years until his retirement.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his late wife, Linda Leazer Sheets who passed away on August 7, 2011. They were united in marriage on June 14, 1959 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage until her death.
Kenneth was blessed with many special talents. From carpentry to electrical, and plumbing; Kenneth could do it all. Kenneth had a special passion for racing. He built his own race cars and won nine championships in dirt track racing in Concord, Hickory, Wilkesboro, & Rockingham in the 1960’s and 70’s. Kenneth was a member of the Goldwing Motorcycle Club and enjoyed traveling on his bike with his wife, Linda. Kenneth loved the simple things in life: watching a good western movie on television, driving his red Dodge Ram truck, and mastering the best steak one will ever eat on the grill. Kenneth was a member of Oswalt Amity Baptist Church.
Kenneth is survived by his daughters Rebecca (Gary) Lamberth and Beverly (Larry) Woods; sister Judy Bowers, grandchildren Bradley Steele (Marissa), Jennifer Lamberth (Jody), Chris Duggar, Samantha Woods (Dusty), great grandchildren Bailey, Ashton, Dylan, Isabella, Kendall, Keira, and soon-to-be Baby Girl Steele due in March 2023.
Mr. Sheets was also preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Briana Shea Steele, sister Joann Sheets, brother Ronnie Sheets, and brother-in-law, Steve Bowers. Waiting at Heaven’s gate was his fur baby, Rowdy, who passed away at the age of 14, just 5 weeks before Kenneth’s death.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the excellent care given by Iredell Memorial Hospital, Baptist Hospital, Dr. Bouhussein, Jill Calhoun, Maryann McHenry, Home Instead with Darlene Brown, and Dr. John Nicholson & staff. In addition to the caregivers, a special thank you goes out to Robert “Bobby” Rogers, Kenneth’s best friend and Sunday lunch buddy, who called him every day.
