Kenneth “Roger” Ingram was born June 9, 1938 to Geraldine (Stewart) and Melvin Ingram in Jewell County, Kansas near Esbon in a limestone house that still stands today. He departed this life peacefully surrounded by family at his home near Lebanon, Kansas on January 31, 2022.
He was united in marriage to his lifelong bride, Carol Jean Killough on October 10, 1958, in Red Cloud, Nebraska. They almost reached 60 years of marriage when she went to her heavenly home in 2018. They raised four children, Debbie, Marcia, Kevin and Jeff. The same doctor that delivered Roger delivered all four of his children. Dr. Obert had retired his horse and buggy by the time the kids were all born.
He spent his early years working at and running gas stations. In 1969, he began working at Eaton Corporation in Kearney, Nebraska. He was one of the first hired and took pride in working 22 years of perfect attendance. He retired from Eaton in 1998, to pursue his love of cattle and farming He always found a way to overcome any obstacles, despite his permanent injuries he acquired in a motorcycle accident in 1978. He moved to his family farm and raised Texas Longhorn cattle and farmed to the amazement of many people. He enjoyed riding his gator with his loyal dog “Pup.”
Roger enjoyed restoring cars and tractors. He was the first president of the Antique Tractor Association. He enjoyed taking trips across the United States on his motorcycle, either with the motorcycle group he was in or with Carol. Camping in Colorado and Wyoming with family was a yearly event for many years. He was never afraid to put his kids to work but it taught them a strong work ethic. If he asked his kids a question, he always knew the answer first to make sure you weren’t fibbing.
He was a private man in many ways but he could pull some pranks and catch you unaware.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Debbie and husband, Duane, Chromy; Marcia Brooks; Kevin Ingram and wife, Keri; and Jeff Ingram and wife, Tonya. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his sister, Cheryl Campbell and husband, Bill; a sister-in-law, Donna Wroblewski; other relatives and friends.
