Kenneth Maxwell Ferris, beloved husband, father, and grandfather traveled to Heaven on July 4, 2019, after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer. Ken was born in Newtownards, Co. Down, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, on August 14, 1952, to Kenneth James Ferris and Sarah Adelaide (“Ada”) Ferris. Ken and Ada were waiting in Heaven to welcome Ken Home.
Ken met the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Lazenbatt, while they were both studying at Queen’s University Belfast. Ken graduated from Queen’s in 1975 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with First Class Honours. Shortly after Mary also graduated from Queen’s, Ken and Mary were married in Belfast on August 20, 1976. This was also the 25-year wedding anniversary of Ken’s parents.
Ken worked in the oil industry his entire career and his various jobs took him all over the world. Ken and Mary moved to Wales, United Kingdom, where they had their son, Grant Maxwell Ferris, born on September 22, 1981. Shortly after Grant was born, Ken, Mary and Grant moved to Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom, where Ken performed engineering work for the oil rigs in the North Sea. After a short while, Ken, Mary, and Grant moved to Grimsby, England, United Kingdom, where they lived for over 8 years while Ken worked at Lindsey oil refinery. Then on July 15, 1995, Ken, Mary, and Grant moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma, after Ken was transferred to the Ardmore oil refinery. A couple of years later, Ken, Mary, and Grant moved to Antwerp, Belgium, but soon decided to return to Ardmore. Ken worked for over 12 years at the Ardmore oil refinery before he started working as an engineering consultant, which took him to various jobs in Coffeyville, Kansas and Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Ken finally decided to retire at the end of March 2019.
He had plans for a long and happy retirement with Mary, but God decided He needed Ken right away. Ken was Grant’s Best Man when Grant married Swathi Talluri in New York City in 2015. Grant and Swathi welcomed their daughter, Amelia Sarah Ferris, on May 21, 2019. Ken was delighted about being a grandfather to Amelia and Amelia’s face always lit up when she saw her wonderful grandfather on Facetime. Ken is dearly missed and gone far too soon, but we take solace that he is At Peace with his parents and family in Heaven.
