Kenneth L. Niehls, 72, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at his residence.
He was born April 21, 1940, in Cowden, the son of Elmer and Nell Richards Niehls. He married Barbara K. Kerley on Nov. 11, 1962, in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Cheryl (James) Stratton of South Jacksonville; two granddaughters, Stacey (Michael) Helmich and Laurie (Daniel) Mattes, both of Jacksonville; great-grandson Eli Helmich; brother Edward (Mabel) Niehls of O’Fallon; and his step-mother, Mae Niehls of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nell Niehls; and sister, Shirley Green (surviving husband Richard of Benton).
Mr. Niehls was a graduate of Illinois School for the Deaf and a longtime member of Westfair Baptist Church. He worked at Passavant Area Hospital for 37 years, retiring in 2000.
Kenneth enjoyed puzzles, sports, and walking, and enjoyed teasing with family and friends. He especially loved his family.
