Kenneth John “Jack” Ellis, 83, of Salem died at 2:15 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 23, 1930 in Salem the son of the late Frederick and Minnie (Smith) Ellis. Before his retirement, Mr. Ellis was a tool and die maker at General Motors in Lordstown for 10 years and previously he worked at Staufenger Tool & Die as a tool and die maker for 25 years. He was a 1948 graduate of Goshen High School. Jack served in the U. S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He was a life member and past commander of the Salem V. F. W. Post 892. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour and was a past junior and senior warden of the church. Jack enjoyed bowling, golfing and tinkering with cars. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed the holidays and family traditions. Survivors include his wife, Helen (Galchick) Ellis, whom he married June 4, 1955; two sons, Randal (Vanessa) Ellis of Batesville, Indiana and Scott Ellis of Salem, two daughters, Jacque (William) Rich of Salem and Wendy (Jeff) Strabala of Salem; a sister Margaret Scott of St. Petersburg, Florida; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A brother, Harry Ellis also preceded him in death.
