Kenneth Jerome Batson, 49, of Finchville, MD peacefully left this Earthly life after a short illness at Signature HealthCARE at Mallard Bay on Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

Kenneth, affectionately known to his family and friends as ‘Curly’, was born in Seaford, DE to Joyce Annette Batson Digsby (John) of Wilmington, DE and Kenneth Ronald Sample (Robin), of Cambridge, MD on February 9, 1966.

Curly received his education in the public school system of Delaware, having attended William Penn High School.  As he began to venture out into the world as a young adult, he began working as a Longshoreman at The Port of Wilmington.  He later moved to Maryland and began working at Burris Logistics and the Dorchester Family YMCA.  He held various positions throughout the Federalsburg area doing manual labor and other handy jobs.  Curly was known as a ‘jack of all trades’.

Curly spent most of his time making others laugh with his side bursting sense of humor.  He was known for his wise cracks and he always had a story to tell.  His favorite line was, ‘you feel me’ whenever he was telling one of those stories.  Curly had a genuine heart and was always willing to share even when he didn’t have much to give.

In addition to his parents, Curly is survived by one son, Kenneth Darell Batson (Esther) and two grandchildren, Kimorah and Xavier Batson, all of Federalsburg.

He is also survived by nine siblings, Rhonda Batson of Finchville, MD, Ronald Lofland, Sr. (Carla) of Cummings, GA, Delma Batson of Salisbury, MD, Annette Batson of Wilmington, DE, Baronica Varnado (Louis) of Cullman, AL, John Digsby, Jr. and Patricia Digsby, both of Wilmington, DE, Ronald Beasley, Jr. (Aiesha) and JaQuaya Beasley, of Cambridge, MD.

He is also survived by a paternal uncle, Jerome Sample (Phyllis), of Easton, MD, maternal uncles, Michael Batson of Federalsburg, MD and Charles Batson and Kenneth Batson, both of Finchville, MD, and maternal aunts Joan Washington of Blades, DE, and Jackie Pennington of Salisbury, MD.

Curly is also survived by his ex-wife, Tulicia Henry-Batson, of Ridgely, MD, with whom he remained very good friends, and their two Godchildren, whom they raised together, Jordan Murray and DeJuan Belfield, both of Galena, MD,  who affectionately referred to him as ‘Pop Pop Curly’.

He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives, close friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Delma Ringold, with whom he shared the same birthday and his paternal grandmother, Maggie Sample, whom he spent a great deal of time with when he moved to Maryland.  He was also preceded in death by a paternal uncle, Percy Sample, with whom he was very close.
