Kenneth Jay Kilgore, age 77 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Walnut Acres in Freeport.

He was born November 21, 1942 in Grand Rapids, MI; the son of the late Jefferson “Jay” and Carolyn (Ryder) Kilgore. He graduated from Dundee Crown High School in Dundee, IL. He went on to graduate from Northern Illinois University and 2-1/2 years of foreign-language study at Indiana University.

Kenneth served four years in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He worked most of his life at Humphrey Cadillac & Olds in Rockford, IL as a sales manager. He loved his Lord and was a former member of First Evangelical Free Church, Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church and North East Christian Church.

He kept a meticulous yard with many trees and flowers and loved the outdoors, especially bird watching, nature walks, and bike riding. He volunteered and helped with injured raptor birds and with a bird-banding station. He also enjoyed his horses and dogs. Most of all he loved spending time with his family whom he loved and whom loved him so very much.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristin (Eric) Piper of Dakota, IL; step-sons, Michael (Jyuen) Makdad of Japan, Nathan (Ashley) Makdad of IL, and Mark Makdad of Japan; his grandchildren, Ellayna Powell and Jenny Houston, and his great-grandchildren: Isabella, Ethan, Blayze and Ryker; sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Schwilk of CA and Jan (Jim) McLouth of IL; and sister-in-law, Dian Kilgore of IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Chuck Kilgore.
