Mr. Kenneth “Junior” Floyd, Sr., 77, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 at 2 :17 am at the emergency department at Elkhart General Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born in Glendale, WV on Apr. 20, 1942 to the late Kenneth A. and Lorenia (Starley) Floyd and is survived by his wife, Phyllis “Pat”.
Also surviving is are his children Gary (Katie Crisostomo) Floyd, Kenneth “KJ” (Mollie Wright) Floyd, Lucas Baker, Heidi (Brian) Emerson, Melinda (Scott) Briesacker, Susan (the late Gabe) Clestine, Mary Alice (Daniel) Briesacker and Theresa Christine Floyd; brothers Russell (Shirley) Glasscock, Barry (Nancy) Floyd and David Starkey; sister Beverly (Stanley) Curtis; special friend Eileen McCory; his good buddy from West Virginia Homer Spears, and a host of grands, great-grands and loving extended family. Preceding him in death are siblings Tom Glasscock, Gary Floyd, Charlotte Purdy and son Kenny Floyd.
Junior was a down home, funny, outgoing sort of person who enjoyed life’s simpler pleasures like waving to folks from his front porch as they passed by and picking blackberries in the summer. His sense of humor always made him the life of the party, and he loved to sing along to country music although it was painfully obvious to those around him that he couldn’t carry a note. He was an avid fisherman when he could get out, he enjoyed spending time with his pit bull “Gary”, and will be best remembered for having a heart of gold, which was reflected by his final selfless act of being an organ donor.
