Mr. Kenneth J. Costello Sr., age 89, beloved husband of 58 years to the late Shirley H. Maurer Costello, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 peacefully at home. Son of the late Martin R. and Anna Mae Lucas Costello, he was born on March 4, 1922 in Bridgeport. He graduated from Harding H.S. in Bridgeport, class of 1940 and most proud of never missing a day of school.

Ken served with pride and honor during WWII in the US Army achieving the rank of Staff Sgt., receiving a Bronze Star and participating in five major campaigns, including the launch on Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion.

After returning from WWII Ken entered Bullard/Havens Tech. School, for the field of carpentry and graduated in 1951. He was a resident of Milford for 59 years.

Ken worked for over 35 years in the construction trade and retired from Park City Builders of Orange as a Construction Superintendent. Ken planned and supervised   countless major construction projects throughout CT during his career.

After retiring he and his wife, Shirley became snowbirds residing in St. James City on Pine Island, FL during the winter months. Ken was a camping enthusiast and an avid traveler. He also enjoyed golfing, dancing and many family activities. Ken was a kind, generous and gentle man, much loved by his family and numerous friends. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, the CT Carpenters Union, the Irish Heritage Society of Milford and a very active member of several Senior Centers, including Milford, Shelton and Prospect.

Ken was a very devoted father and husband and is survived by his four children; Cathy Costello of West Haven, Kenneth Costello Jr. of Milford, Debra Bristow and her husband Richard of Sarasota, FL and Patricia Gardiner and her husband Stephen of Wakefield, RI, a brother, Clifford Costello and his wife Ann of Stratford, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Martin Costello.
