Kenneth V. Hammond, 78, of the Adams County town of Rome, passed away on Thursday morning, Dec. 28, 2017, at home.
Ken was born on Jan. 6, 1939, in Marshfield, and was a graduate of Pittsville High School. He had worked as a machine tender at the Biron Division of Consolidated Papers, Inc. before retiring.
His interests included fishing, hunting and golfing. He played in the Wood County Baseball League from 1961-1963 and attended the state championship in Milwaukee with the team. He had coached basketball at Grant School and also the Little League Kellner Cowboys. His hole-in-one at Homestead Golf Course was a proud moment. Ken also enjoyed snowmobiling in the 1970s and was an avid keno player.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene (Stillman) Hammond of the town of Rome; sons, Kenneth (friend Colleen Johnston) Hammond of Illinois, and Craig (Brenda) Hammond of Pittsville; granddaughter, Emily Pope; grandson, Michael Short; and great-granddaughter, Everly Short ; half-brothers, Ron, Roger and Hank; half-sisters, Pauline and Rosie.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Strebe; and son, Richard Hammond.
