Kenneth G. Adams “Ken” 79, formerly of Norwich, Connecticut, and of Boca Raton, FL. Died Thursday April 9th, 2020 in hospice care at Trustbridge hospice in Boca Raton FL. He was the husband of Sally A. Thacher.
On October 13, 1940, Kenneth Glenn Adams was born into a Navy family at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego; his father was a Motor Machinist First Class on USS Saury at the start of WWII. Ken and his mother were in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, he was one-year-old. They got out on a Red Cross ship in February, and traveled back to Connecticut to stay with his grandparents Bruno and Vita Pedace. Ken grew up as a teen in the 1950s. He was nuts about cars. He went to senior prom with a busted nose all bandaged up after a car fell off its jacks while he was working under it. Did his 2-year hitch in the Army in 60-61 with a truck company after boot camp at Fort Dix; he came home and founded New Breed drag racing club. He purchased a couple of Midas Muffler franchises in 1978 and sold the Midas franchises 10 years later to “retire” to Florida. Upon coming to Florida, Ken quickly became interested in building spec homes on the ocean all of which he sold while simultaneously making new life long friends along the way. From building his spec homes, Ken found a new passion for residential Real Estate and he quickly became a licensed agent passing the state exam on his first try. At the end of his career he considered real estate to be a hobby and ended up working for one of the largest Real Estate companies in Boca Raton and South Florida (Mizner Grande Realty). Though he “retired” Ken’s passion for life and love of adrenaline pushed him to do many things most people would not even dream of. He became a certified diver, got into parasailing and of course continued with his love of cars. He bought and sold a ton of cars along the way, but always went back to his first love, the Corvette. Ken loved to go on cruises, he enjoyed being able to see and explore new places. During his retirement he went on many trips in and out of the country from Las Vegas to Rome. His favorite trip being to the ancient city of Pompeii, he loved history and was awestruck to be so close to such a well known and ancient historical site. He loved history so much that there wasn’t a day where you wouldn’t find him either in his chair watching documentaries or on his computer reading about new information discovered concerning the world’s past. He was especially interested in WWII a war his father served in and one he was practically born into, there were few things Ken didn’t know about WWII and he was always willing to get into a historical discussion or simply provide information regarding almost any and all aspects of it. Ken was an avid boater and knew well how to navigate the waters around his home.
His parents, Glenn and Jennie Adams of Norwich, Connecticut, passed in 1995.
Ken is survived by his wife, and partner of 30 years, Sally Thacher; and his children Ken (Alison) Adams of Delanco, New Jersey, Julie (David) Perry of Montville, Connecticut, Cindy Adams and Tammie Kinney-Gromko of Norwich, Connecticut, Christine Thacher of Boca Raton, Florida, and Henry (Molly) Thacher of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He leaves behind grandchildren Benjamin, Nicholas, Jonathan (Deidre), Rachael, Sarah, Michael, Matthew, Mark, Emily, James, Kaila, Olivia, and Henry.
