Kenneth E. Hattery, 74, rural Peru, umpired his final game at St. Vincent’s Heart Center, Indianapolis, at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, with his family surrounding him.

He was born in Union Township, on Aug. 1, 1935, to William Ernest and Gayle (Keim) Hattery. On Nov. 12, 1955, he was married to Delores (Donaldson) Hattery, who survives.

Kenny was an instructor and umpire for the Amateur Softball Association and umpired many state and national fast pitch softball tourneys. He was a baseball instructor and umpire for the IHSAA and had umpired several state finals in high school baseball games. In recent years he had umpired small college fast-pitch softball. Kenny was inducted into the Indiana ASA Hall of Fame in 2003. Other things he enjoyed, besides loving his grandchildren and all of his large extended family, were ice fishing in the winter, mushroom hunting in the spring and gardening in the summer. He was a Purdue fan and a member of the John Purdue Club.

He is survived by two sons, Troy and wife Janie and Kendel and wife Kandy; four grandchildren, Dean, Melinda, Katelyn and Kassandra Hattery, all of rural Peru; two brothers, Granville (Barb), Rochester, and Max (Sue), Macy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
