Kenneth Doorn, 88, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born March 22, 1932, in Kalamazoo a son of Ryan and Henrietta (Broekema) Doorn and had been a lifelong area resident. He attended Comstock Schools and spent his free time working in his father’s celery fields.

Growing up he spent a lot of time with his cousin Mel and nephew Roger. Enlisted in the U.S. Army February 10, 1951 and served in the Korean War where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart as well as other awards. He was honorably discharged February 17, 1956. He returned to Kalamazoo where he held numerous jobs. On April 7, 1967, Ken married Ruth Craft who preceded him in death on October 17, 2005. He was employed by the Upjohn Company retiring after 25 years. He was an avid sports fan especially of the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Red Wings.

He and Ruth thoroughly enjoyed traveling, spending time in the upper peninsula and visiting relatives in the south. He was especially fond of trips to Las Vegas. Ken never met a stranger. He was very social and loved meeting people. Ken was also preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, a stepson, a grandchild and a great-grandchild. He is survived by a daughter, Delores (Melvin) Minshall of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Sharon (Emmett) Craft; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
