Kenneth was born on August 10, 1919 in Chariton, Iowa to parents James and Nora (Edelman) McCormick. He was the 13th of 17 children. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1937. He started husbandry following high school and retired from his lifelong work in 2010 completing 73 years of predominately crop and cattle farming.
Kenneth married Martha Eloise Rasmus on February 21, 1953. In their 63 years of marriage she was his wife, working partner, and most recently care giver. Three daughters were blessed to this union. Kenneth and Martha moved from the farm in rural Lucas to the Vintage Hills Cooperative; Indianola, IA in 2013 where he remained until the brief illness that proceeded his death.
Kenneth has frequently shared with friends and family advice for living a productive life. He lived a full frugal life, that was productive, full of hard work, and he accepted responsibility to care for family and friends. He shunned temptations and excess. Most recently his favorite expression has been, “Don’t work too hard or you’ll get old like me”. He passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on March 7, 2016 at the age of 96.
He is survived by his wife and daughters Connie Ehlers (Leon) of Lucas; Carol McCormick of Dallas, TX; and Carla Hausrath (Stephen) of Plattsburgh, NY.
