Kenneth Austin Eckmyre

November 1, 1922 – January 15, 2011

Kenneth Austin Eckmyre passed away peacefully on January 15, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family. The son of Roland Milton and Goldie Vera (Cole) Eckmyre, Ken was born November 1, 1922 at home in Bay City and lived here all of his life. Ken served in the combat infantry in the United States Army during WW II in North Africa and Italy, as well as the North American Theatre, and was especially proud to have earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. On the CB radio, Ken was known to many as “The Saint”. Ken was a plumbing and heating salesman for many years. He was a gregarious man with a loud sense of humor and a passion for Big Band music. Ken’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life. His love of dogs was evident by the constant presence of 4 legged companions in his home, most recently Molly, Cuddles and Dali.

Ken is survived by his daughters, Susan (Don) Fournier of Bay City and Mary (Roger) Briggs of Bay City, and their sister Lisa (Jeff) Collins, of Swayzee, IN; his favorite grandchildren Kara (Eric) Sauer of Saginaw, Kristopher(Dayna) Fournier of Essexville, Katie (Preston) Bruessow of Morton, IL, Amanda Truemner (Eric Allard) of Pinconning and Lisa’s daughter Marissa Coolman of Swayzee, IN; four great- grandsons- Luke Alexander Sauer, Jack Akio Bruessow , Chase Lee Allard and Andrew Louis Ertmanis. Ken is also survived by two nephews- Jerry Eckmyre of Owosso and Larry (Yvonne) Eckmyre of Florida, his cousin Dick (Iris) Cole of Florida and many great- nieces and great- nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister- in- law Orville and Catherine Eckmyre, a brother, Junior and a sister, Mamie who both died soon after birth and his nephew Don Eckmyre. Special thanks to his nurse Anne Marie Wiggins from McLaren, who knew Ken only a short time but made a huge difference in his life.
