Hagerstown, MD – Mr. Kenneth A. Dotter, Jr., 78, of Hagerstown, MD passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Frederick Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 10, 2011.
He was the son of the late Kenneth A. Dotter Sr. and Sarah Holmes Stehl Dotter Etridge.
He was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He was a dedicated Mack Trucks worker, hired January 16, 1961 and retired June 1, 1996 with 35 years of service. In his young years he served as an acolyte at St. John’s Episcopal Church where he was a member.
He was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211. A former member of The Potomac Fish and Game Club. In previous years he assisted with Boy Scout Troop 100. He received the “Order of the Arrow”. Also a member of the Vol. Fire Co. of Halfway for many years and UAW Local Union #1247.
Mr. Dotter refinished and built furniture. He was an artist, enjoyed drawing his favorite cartoon character “Snoopy”. In his retirement years the birds and squirrels on his front porch never went without food. He loved all animals. Our family had a menagerie of animals over the years.
He is survived by his devoted son Kenneth A. Dotter, III of Woodbine, MD. His brother John Etridge of California and uncle Walter B. Stehl, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD. His former wife Arlene (Showe) Dotter Boggs who remained his friend. Family friends Bill Pittsnogle of Hagerstown, MD and Tim Harrison of Woodbine, MD
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his Stepfather Allan Etridge. His beloved grandparents The Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Walter B. Stehl. Affectionately known as “Pops” and “Nonie”.
It was Mr. Dotter’s decision to be cremated.
