Kenneth A. Cranston, Jr., of Cromwell, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at age 68 after a battle with glioblastoma. Kenneth was born September 15, 1948 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Kenneth A. and Henrietta (Behrens) Cranston and was one of five children. He was raised in Glen Ridge, NJ, graduated from Muhlenberg College and M.B.A. from UCONN, and worked at the Travelers Insurance Company for over 20 years. He married Carol (Rosenbaum) Cranston and they settled in Cromwell, where they lived together for 42 years. He was retired from The Hartford Insurance Company at the time of his death. Kenneth was an accomplished cook, painter, woodworker, gardener, and a lover of the outdoors, the arts, travel, and slapstick humor. He was a tireless laborer and a steadfast support to friends and family. He will be remembered for his contagious laughter, inquisitive mind, and frequent strikes of inspiration. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. It is easy to picture him now in a place he loved, settling off in his canoe on the Susquehanna River, in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania, on a clear and quiet afternoon. He taught us to live a good life and do what you love, and he is at peace now. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughter Amy Bowers (Andrew), Philadelphia, PA; son Ian Cranston (Ashley), Cromwell, CT; and granddaughters Lucy, Bea, and Sylvie. He is also survived by mother-in-law Barbara Rosenbaum, Southington, CT; siblings Adair Larkin (Keith), Metairie, LA, Chris Shivar (Greg), Winter Springs, FL, Dave Cranston (Becky), Mint Hill, NC, and Henry Cranston (Beth), Fort Myers, FL; sister-in-law Joan Costa (Frank), East Hampton, CT; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
