Karen “Kaye” Beckom Nutt Barlow became one of God’s angels on Friday, December 28, 2018 after succumbing to a series of health complications. Kaye was born in Newnan Hospital on November 20, 1952 to William Lee (WL) and Kathleen Keye Beckom. She joined her big brother Terry Lee Beckom, Sr and they would remain devoted to each other’s happiness from that day forward. When she was 13, her baby brother Darren Beckom was born and she would often take him everywhere with her, especially when she was old enough to drive. She started her own family with Mike Fleming in 1970 and welcomed her only child, Michel “Paige” Fleming that same year. Mike was still in college and working a full-time job at Colonial Foods so they struggled as a lot of young families do, but they were blessed with support from both sets of Grandparents. She worked on the square at Connally Drugs for a time but being home with her daughter was her true joy. After the world’s first “Conscious Uncoupling” of her marriage to Mike, she met another young lad who whisked her and Paige away to Mobile, Al. Kaye loved the beach, so they spent many weekends at Dauphin Island or Gulf Shores. But after a few years, she got homesick and moved back to Newnan. Not long after moving back, she met a man who would become her best friend and confidant, Jeff Nutt. Their relationship was hardly conventional but neither was Kaye. Theirs was a friendship to be envied and that will outlast time itself. In January of 2012, she married Maurice Barlow whom she’d been dating for several years. At the same time, she retired from her job working for her dear friend the Hon Judge John Herbert Cranford. She said at the time of her retirement that he was the longest relationship she’d ever had with a man. They adored one another. Maurice soon moved her to his home in Brookhaven, MS. They were members of the Macedonia Baptist Church there. They each had health problems and helped one another through them. They truly honored the vows of “in sickness and in health”. Maurice passed away on October 10, 2018 while sleeping peacefully in his bed. Kaye moved back to Newnan after Maurice’s passing to live with her daughter. They spent the last two months of Kaye’s life being girlfriends and forgetting about any and all differences that most Mothers and Daughters have. Kaye’s hobbies included: smiling brightly at each passing face, talking with the stranger next to her in line at Kroger, taking homemade baked goods to loved ones during the holidays, cooking her famous chicken ‘n dumplin’s for anyone who asked, being with friends and family, Black Friday shopping with her sister/cousin Leslie, going on a cruise to anywhere, making people laugh, slot machines, the beach, the pool, porch sittin’, loving on babies, shoes, buying her daughter and loved ones anything they said they liked, and truly loving all that life had to offer. Kaye was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie “Maurice” Barlow, her parents WL and Kathleen Beckom, her beloved brother Terry Lee Beckom, Sr, her best friend Cathy Camp Lowery, nephew Drew Chafin Beckom, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She leaves behind her daughter Paige Fleming, brother Darren (Susan) Beckom, sister cousins Leslie Thompson, Lynn Knott, Ellen Calhoun Moore, stepson Brian (Cindy) Barlow and their children Drake and Gavin, stepson Brooks (Ashley)Barlow and their children Blayne and Brayden, granddog Fritzie Lou, nieces, nephews and too many family and friends to name.
