Kay Taliaferro, September 11, 1940 – October 31, 2013.

Kay Allen Taliaferro passed away peacefully at her home in Belton, Texas on October 31, 2013, shortly after her 73rd birthday. She was born on September 11, 1940 in Rock Springs, Texas to Cecil and Maxine Allen. She graduated from Beeville High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Abilene Christian University, where she was a member of the social club Ko Jo Kai. She married Gary Day Taliaferro on June 22, 1962. She taught second grade for two years and later became a homemaker. At age six Kay contracted Polio and became the mascot of Troy High School because of her fighting spirit.

She was an active member of the Belton Church of Christ. She loved teaching children’s Sunday school for most of her life. She loved serving in the church, and shared the love of Christ with all those around her. She honored Jesus through her gift of hospitality, always ready for the unexpected visitor. Her gentle, loving spirit enabled her home to become a refuge over the years for many who needed a roof, food, and understanding support.

Kay is survived by her husband Gary Taliaferro of Belton, sons Anthony and wife Lisa from Friendswood, TX; Steven from Zagreb, Croatia; Justin and wife Corrie from Bartlett, TX; Scott and wife Kelli from Keller, TX; and daughter Karen and husband Shane from Belton, TX; sister Ann Ritchie and husband Joe from Belton, TX; and eleven grandchildren, Ryan, Megan and Macy Taliaferro; Matthew, Ethan and Caden Fletcher; Jacob Burlingame; Bella, Gunnar and Callie Smith; and William Taliaferro.
