Kay, a long time nurse, went to meet her heavenly Father January 19, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Norfolk.
She was born in Charles City, Iowa on June 10, 1935 to Lyle and Mildred Wilcox.
She graduated from High School in Spencer; Iowa. She earned her nursing degree from St Luke’s School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Clarkson University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Kay married John (Jack) Putters on June 23, 1957 in Spencer, Iowa. The couple moved to Norfolk, Nebraska following their wedding.
Kay’s career in nursing spanned her lifetime. She worked at Sister’s Hospital, Lutheran Community Hospital, and Norfolk Medical Group. For a majority of Kay’s nursing career she was a clinical nursing instructor at Northeast Community College and was proud of the students she taught.
Kay was very active in Trinity Episcopal Church, volunteered at Grant School, and the American Cancer Society. She was an active blood donor and participated in numerous medical trials to further medical research. She was leader of the “I Can Cope” program for American Cancer Society.
Kay enjoyed years in Toastmasters, served on the board of directors at Bright
Horizons and was instrumental in the development of the Mother of Twins Group. She was a member of the Aquanuts Boat Club, PEO and University of Women.
Kay is survived by her husband Jack Putters, and her four children and their spouses: Jay and Barb Putters of Norfolk, Joel and Dana Putters of Stanton, Jill and Jeff Long, of Winfield, Kansas and Joy and Jeff Shaft of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Kay had nine grandchildren: Jon and wife Carlie Putters of Norfolk, Ashley and husband David McCart, of Norfolk, Jamie and wife Emily Putters of Norfolk, Samantha Putters of Ewing, NE, Shelby Putters of Norfolk, Wilson Long, of Lincoln, Bennett Long of Lawrence, KS, and Taylor and Tanner Shaft of Albert Lea, MN. Kay is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Talon, and Nolan Putters of Norfolk, and Adalyn and Rylan McCart of Norfolk, 1 sister, Mary Jo and her husband Bill Furstenau of Lewiston, ID.
She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law.
